Finished! Deathskull Ork Mob

My favorite 40K army by far :] More deathskullz to be added to my previously sold army. This time a nobz mob, some burna boyz, and a trukk were added to the list. I also painted up a bonus mini for this project. When all the pieces were shipped to me a lone grot head found it's way into the box so I found him a body and a job.

WIP Deathskullz :]

Here's what I've been focused on over the last few days. Some good ol' dirty Orks in the theme of Deathskull. The whole entire project includes 6 Burna Boyz, one Trukk, and a ten strong Nobz mob. The Nobz mob being a higher level of fineness. Naturally I saved them for last.

The rest of the reinforcements are awaiting some static grass and a little grease but for now they're done and avoiding the dust.

I was also distracted by the latest colossal I've gotten my hands on.
This one's going to be intense :)

Finished! Legion of Everblight Battlegroup

All on a Sunday afternoon :) The urge just hit me to painting something up quick after having all those infinity miniatures under the brush for a week and a half. So I pulled out this starter I had and the rest is explained below. Enjoy!

I know what you're thinking. "Samson, can I buy that?" Yes. Yes you can!

Finished! Aleph faction for Infinity

All done :) Finally found the time for their class picture last night. An entirely cybernetic Aleph Army, well, the androids might have a trace of human ingredients, I'm not entirely read up on the fiction surrounding this game.

Go DJ Go!

This last picture is one of the reference shots sent to me by Josh. Not a bad match but I couldn't resist adding a little red to the equation :)

Finished! Rivet Wars Cruel Mini

It's also the first Chibi I've laid the brush to. Hooray for first times. You might recognize the base from a tutorial I posted earlier, study up here. Now I present, the fruit of my labor.

Aleph Project Update

Just a few progress shots as this project jumps over the half way point. I'm finally able to add some final highlights to the white and there's a lot of it so it's a big step. Then they need some reds and semi flesh tone on the cyborgs :) Almost there, I'm going to get back to it!

Finished! Caapiti

This was one of my entries for the Crystal Brush this year. I was surprised he didn't make first cut but I guess the piece is a little too chaotic and as a result the composition is a little off. It's one of those situations where  people noticed everything I wanted them to notice but it didn't work in my favor. I wanted the frog to blend in and match his environment so I colored him with the surrounding colors. Which suits the rules of nature, unfortunately the rules of mini painting can differ. If I would have painted his body in a more contrasting color, he would jump right out of his surroundings and be more compositionally sound. I still had a great time working on him and I still think I hit a new personal level with this piece, having used a lot of new materials and creating most of the base from scratch with a diversity of plants and animals. I sculpted and cut everything except the laser etched plants. See if you can find the snake and the butterfly, there are some frogs in there too ;)

Check him out on Coolminiornot

Here's a separate shot I took of the background before it was glued in place. I really enjoy the painted backdrop, just another piece to add some narrative. Welcome to the jungle, it's going to explode :)

Finished! Gamesday 2012 Blood Angel Captain

This was a slightly quicker piece, coming in at 6 hours after assembly and airbrushing. Let's also pretend he's shooting his gun and that's why it's the only part of the picture that's out of focus. Shitty, but I didn't want to wait until tonight to take more pictures, gotta keep it coming. This guy was fun though, I tried to bring more attention to his head by using brighter colors on his upper half and more white edging. Experimenting with color value and focus :)

Infinity Aleph Step 1!

This is project from a friend I met out in Utah when I worked for (chills) blue table painting. I'm really excited to paint an infinity army, this is the first time I've been commissioned to paint one and hopefully it will bring more of it's kind my way. I really miss this game, I played a dozen games out in Utah but no one in my current area plays it. I might be speaking too soon but I've been making some moves to change that, we'll see ;) For now, the task at hand is Aleph. Josh made the bases and assembled the minis himself before sending them my way, looks good buddy! The idea here is that the force contains no actual humans and the basing is done in a laboratory theme. All cyborgs and robots carrying out the will of the self aware internet of the future. Did I mention this game is awesome?

For the armor plates I was sent a reference picture from the movie I-robot. Basicly white armor plates with black internal, worky bits, that have an internal turquoise glow. So step one was to get that white nice and smooth.

I don't know how most painters measure their time but sometimes I like to use units of measurement referred to as "waylons". Other times I use a clock. So this was my soundtrack :)

Here they are in the bare state. Just wanted to show the basing Josh did before I painted over it.
